The Swiss Genealogical Society (SGFF) is a society with individual membership, with the possibility for regional societies to become members as well. SGFF further offers the services of an umbrella organsation, which can be requested by regional societies.
Aims :
SGFF helps all interested members to gain access to genealogy, and to get in touch with other members.
A periodic Newsletter informs members about new publications and other aids, as well as about events (lectures, seminars and general meetings) organised by regional societies.
Further education of members is fostered by organising specific seminars and publication of research aids.
SGFF publishes a Year Book with (amongst other items) articles on topics of general interest to Swiss genealogy. The Year Book is included in the membership dues.
SGFF runs a Document Sales Office, where genealogical publications, brochures and forms may be acquired at favourable prices.
SGFF owns a genealogical library, kept at the Swiss National Library, which is continually expanded by gifts, purchases and exchange of publications with other genealogical and related societies.
On behalf of SGFF Alfred Dobler runs the Genealogical Information Office ("Zentrale Auskunftsstelle") which provides information on whether research on a given surname has already been conducted. As no actual research is conducted, addresses of professional genealogists are forwarded on request.
SGFF maintains contacts to societies engaged in genealogy, history and heraldry.
